Happy new year everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful, safe, and fun time celebrating the new year! For many, a new year brings new plans, including that seemingly daunting task of planning a wedding! It is after all, very common for people to become engaged over the holiday months, so what better time to start your planning than the first day of the new year?!
Here at CG Ceremonies, we have complied some tips and tricks to help you get through your beginning stages of your engagement and keep you calm, cool, and collected along the way.
First thing first, figure out your budget! Sit down with your significant other and decide how much in total you want to spend on your entire wedding. No, we’re not just talking dress and tux. We are talking EVERYTHING. From dress, to makeup, to venue, to florist, to favors, to all the little details in between. Be sure you two find a happy medium that you are both comfortable with that will not break the bank!
Next, put together a wedding binder or folder. Doing this, will keep you organized and on track. It will help to keep all of your documents that pertain to the wedding in a centralized location for easy access when questions come up along the way. Be sure to flip through some bridal magazines to start getting some inspiration and get a better feel on how you want to tweak your wedding timeline. Remember, the wedding timeline is not something that you must follow, it is just something that is recommended. At the end of the day, you can plan your wedding however you want because well, it is after all, your wedding day!
The next thing, pick a date! Because I promise you, you will get sick of hearing “When is the wedding” for the billionth time in a row in a five minute span! Once you pick your date, you at least want to have an idea of the venue, whether you want to getting married in the state you live, planning a destination shindig, or just having a simple reception. The key thing you have to remember when picking a venue to NOT feel obligated to follow tradition! For instance, if you are having a laid back BBQ themed wedding, you should opt for a fun outdoor setting that fits your theme, instead of a traditional, formal ballroom.
After you have the budget, venue, and date, you should decide on your wedding party. Once you have that ring on your finger, there will be whispers and wonderings of who will be asked to be a bridesmaid and a groomsmen. You don’t have to have a giant bridal party if you don’t want to or have a bridal party at all! I myself, am not having a bridal party for my own upcoming wedding later on this year, just a maid of honor in order to keep things intimate. If you decide you do want a wedding party and have figured out who it’s going to be, head over to Pinterest for some inspiration on some cute ways to “propose” to your bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Once you have made it this far, consider whether or not you want to hire a wedding planner. A wedding planner will be able to guide you along the rest of the way throughout your wedding planning process. They will be there with you during every step of the way. They will guide you to the right florists, the best bakers, and the quintessential decor. Above all, their job is to ensure that everything runs smoothly and will try their absolute best to keep your stress level as low as possible.
We hope that for all those who are newly engaged this new year, we have lit a path for you to begin your wedding planning journey! It may be a long road, and there may be bumps a long the way, but we promise you that in the end you are going to tell yourself it was all worth it! We are hoping that 2018 brings you joy, peace, and prosperity!
